Practical Clicker Training
Are you currently using the clicker for your
training, but not sure if you're doing things right?Have you used the clicker a little or heard a
little about it and would like to know more? Wonder why your dog keeps throwing behaviors
at you or doesn't seem to be getting the hang of the clicker?
Have tried using the clicker but found it
doesn't work as you just can't get the timing? Don't feel you have the co-ordination?
This practical 6 session class has been
designed just for you.
The 6 sessions will take place during the day
over a 3 week time period. (Dates and times below)
Over the 6 sessions we will include:
- A short revision on learning theory
- Practice clicker training mechanical skills
- Discuss and use a variety of ways to get
behavior e.g. lure / shape / capture and the merits of each.
- Learn how to create a thinking dog who wants
to learn.
- Discuss rewards / reinforcers - what is the
difference? How can you make them more powerful?
- Create shaping plans
- Practice shaping behaviors
- Learn when and how to put a behavior on cue
- Learn how to take the behavior to fluency
- What is fluency / do we have it / do we always
need it / do we know?
- Learn how to change a cue
- Discuss the reasons why things may be going wrong
in your training and what to do about it.
- Learn how to obtain quick responses to the
cues you give (latency)
- Have lots and lots of fun!

Control Unleashed 1
Based on the principals from Leslie
McDevitt's book by the same name, this class would benefit everyone, but especially those with dogs too excited in a typical class situation.
Do you find yourself
asking why your dog doesn't always behave the way you would have expected in a
given situation? Does your dog become over aroused easily? Does your dog have
trouble calming down? Does your dog perform well at home but have trouble
concentrating with all the other dogs in class? Does your dog appear to 'shut
down' and you don't understand why?
Control Unleashed 1 will give
you and your dog the tools you need to cope as distractions increase toward a
goal of eventually rejoining a more traditionally run group class.
These may be classes that you will
want to repeat over and over or one 7-week session may be enough to give you all the
tools you need. Class size will be limited to six dogs with a minimum of four
dog/handler teams.
Cost: $140 for 7 weeks (payable in advance) The first week is without dogs. Classes will be held outside in the agility field so are weather-dependent.

Control Unleashed 2
This class is offered
as a continuation for those of you who have mastered the skills
taught in Control Unleashed 1 and whose dogs
are ready for an increased challenge. It is by no means a traditional group
class. The pace set is determined by your dog and the other dogs in class. For
those of you who aim to compete in agility competitions one day, this class
will provide an invaluable way to begin to incorporate your new skills in a low
key agility setting.
These may be classes that you will

tools you need. Class size will be limited to six dogs with a minimum of four
