Lynne and Pete Stephens

British world team members Lynne and Pete Stephens have brought over 25 years of training experience with them from the U.K. They’ve trained a wide variety of breeds and handlers of all abilities.

Following her initiation into the world of dog training with Brandy, her pet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lynne discovered British Working Trials. These involve obedience, tracking, searching, agility and patrol work skills. In 1987 she went on to win the coveted Associated Sheep, Police and Army Dogs (ASPADS) Police Dog of the Year competition, to which only the country’s best dogs and handlers were invited to compete.

Lynne and Pete have qualified and gained top places in all the major U.K. agility finals, including Crufts and Olympia. Their first major achievement at this level was in 1996 and one or both of them have represented the family at these finals almost every year since, often being placed in the top three. Both Lynne and Pete competed as members of the British team at the 2003 Agility World Championships in Lieven (France). Lynne was also part of the British team that went to Italy in 2004.

Lynne has now been living and training in America for almost 3 years. During this time she has qualified for the USDAA Nationals three times with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Quiz and twice with her Border Collie, Chess, reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Prix with both dogs in Arizona in 2005.

In 2007 she qualified for the AKC Nationals held in Ohio in March with Quiz, finishing overall 23rd in the 12” division in a class of around 230 dogs.

Turbo, her youngest Border Collie is now 2 years old and has just made his trial debut, qualifying for the USDAA Quarter finals in which he competed in Atlanta earlier this year.

Taco is the latest Cavalier to join her family and is currently enjoying learning lots of clicker tricks and just how much fun it is to race at top speed through the tunnels.

Lynne has also written several articles for the noted agility publication, Clean Run, and has been invited to contribute to their regular feature, “Ask the Experts.” Lynne and Pete currently own seven dogs, including three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and four Border Collies.

Karen Mielke

Karen was born in England and moved to the U.S. in 1978. She began agility training in 1998 and competes at the highest levels of USDAA and AKC. Karen has taught at both Canine Capers Agility Club in Atlanta, GA. and the Shamrock Dog Training Club in Louisville, KY. Clicker training is one of her areas of expertise and she has attended workshops by Emma Parsons, Virginia Broitman, Sherry Lipman, Caroline Barney, Kathy Sdao, and Julie Daniels to name but a few.

She has graduated with distinction from the Karen Pryor Clicker Training Academy and currently, she is the only trainer in North Carolina with this prestigious national certification. Her current project is a dog aggressive GSD rescue who is otherwise absolutely adorable, and she says, her best teacher to date. Karen especially enjoys trick training with her dogs: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Tess and True, Border Collie Tag and GSD Cheyenne. The cats won't be left out of the fun either.
